It has stopped raining. These puddles at the corner of Louisa and Preston are a real wet foot hazard and splash hazard to summer pedestrians; and will be slush and ice hazards in the winter.
We can put a man on the moon, send a politician to a conference, but somehow can’t quite get the water to drain off crosswalks or sidewalks.
This was done on purpose…It's storm water storage…
The just repaved Lyon street, I never noticed the puddles around the crosswalks until now. Did it get worse or did I just swim through them without thinking before?
It's time the City reconsider drainage on urban streets with curbs and storm sewers. Draining to the outside makes sense for rural roads without storm sewers or sidewalks, but once a street has sidewalks and storm sewers things change. Personally I think they should start having draining towards grates placed at the centreline (intersections could become great big whirlpools…). This gets the water away from pedestrians and cyclists and also removes a road obstacle for cyclists as well without resorting to those more expensive side inlet designs.Somehow though, I doubt this will happen any time soon.
I fully totally and wonderfully agree. Roads should drain from the curb to the centreline catchbasins. The friction of the tires would keep the salt active and snow melted. No more puddles along sidewalks. Instead of l'll ole ladies falling and breaking their hips and dying six months later, we would have the odd bumper dang amongst cars. Much better.
