There are a few examples in the Market area of Montreal-style exterior staircases, but they are few and far between. There’s also a spiral stair on a house on Lisgar, and then I spotted this one in the Glebe/Ottawa South.
Hurrah for an interesting front stair !
I’m assuming the one on Lisgar is the wooden spiral inside the circular column between Kent and Lyon?
Whenever I see these In Montreal, I wonder what it must be like to be a mail carrier and go up and down these stairs all day in the winter.
As I understand it, these stairs became popular in my home town through some Montreal zoning regulation: exterior staircases are not included in setback measurements. Is this the case here too?
